Lose Your Temper Jeremiah 18:3,4 There is so much in the world that we tend to get extremely excited over: sports events, politics, world happenings, neighbors, and family. Often we forget to moderate the adrenaline and lose sports events, politics, world relationships, neighbors, and family. Usually it is because we have a mindset that prevents us from doing the right thing. Few teams really get by with only one player; talking AND listening are required to establish good governments; the world is really too small and the consequences too great not to find common ground; and we will always need our neighbors and friends. It is just this that we need to lose our temper over. We should not lose the temper of the adrenaline kind but the resistance like metal heated and quenched of our beliefs that there is no other way but ours! It is good to have traditions and long held beliefs, but many ideas presented today are short on both. On the other hand, much of our personal belief filters are based on a perceived immediate need which we present as “I’ve always done it that way! I know it’s right!” Really? . . . . . The story of Adelaide A. Pollard can be anyone’s. She wrote the poem that became the hymn “Have Thine Own Way” commemorating God breaking and re-making her in His way. Is your way really right? Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by me.” Be right, open your heart to God and listen for His direction. Be thankful today that God is making a difference in your life. |
